Mark 8:34-35 – If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross and follow me. For whoever would save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for my sake and the Gospel’s will save it.
When Gord first came into the men’s recovery program two years ago, his life was falling apart because of alcoholism. He made it half-way through the program and then succumbed to the temptation of alcohol again. He came back to the Mission a few months later; and this time he was really sick and tired of the havoc the alcohol had wreaked in his life. He was willing to completely surrender to the Lord Jesus Christ and trust that He would help him through the stresses in life in a healthy way.
Today, Gord is an intern and he has been free of alcohol for close to a year now. He has found that Jesus has fulfilled the promise He made in Mark 8:34, 35 where Jesus said, “If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross and follow me. For whoever would save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for my sake and the Gospel’s will save it.” Gord gave up his reliance on alcohol, trusting that God would give him real peace instead of the destructive false sense of peace in alcohol. May the Lord continue to show Gord what it means to walk with Jesus and find eternal life and peace in Him.
