What if you believe in God, but not in Jesus? This is a great and profound question. What makes this question especially interesting is that it came from an eight year old girl.
At the after school program for children here at the Family Life Centre, we break for a snack about twenty minutes before the kids are dismissed. Just before the snack, however, we have a
Bible lesson. And it was during our Bible time that the little girl raised her hand and asked this question. I delight in questions like these, because it tells me that a child is thinking seriously about things pertaining to God.
For a follower of Jesus, a question like this is always welcome because it gives an opportunity to teach an important truth. We don’t make things up. The answer comes right from the lips of Jesus, who stated it emphatically in John 14:6 when He told His apostles “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to Father except through me.” Moreover, I was very blunt about people who worship God without including Jesus. God will not honour those who worship Him and leave Jesus out. We must always worship both in spirit and in truth (John 4:24).
