Last October at our Annual General Meeting, I had to give a brief update. Being very new in my position, I wasn’t sure what to say. It was difficult to give a report on the year as I hadn’t been there for most of it. I prayed for God to guide me and asked what He wanted me to say. God gave me three words; Growth, Change & Transformation and that was what I spoke on. Since then, God has definitely shown that this was His plan for the ladies at Charis.
One thing that we learn from many of the ladies who enter
our program is how 'tough' they’ve learned to be. Many have been survivors from a very young age and have learned to depend on no one but themselves. In programming that looks like rebellion, bad attitude, disrespect and anger. There are many walls that have to be broken down. What a blessing it is to see God begin to transform their lives. The biggest reward is seeing the smiles begin to form on their face, the laughter and joy that starts to be a part of their lives when healing begins.
Over the past few months there have been multiple reports from various workers from other agencies who work with certain ladies at Charis saying things like: “I haven’t seen her smile in such a long time”, “I can’t believe she’s still in the program! She’s never lasted more than a few days anywhere else.” We give God all of the praise for those reports. It’s His love through us that is making a difference. He has the perfect plan for our lives and true peace only comes when we submit to Him.
Romans 12:2: And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.
